The Takata Airbag Recall

Takata Airbag Recall:

The Japanese Airbag Manufacturing company known as Takata will file for bankruptcy after their exploding airbags leave over 100 injured and at least 17 dead around the world.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that over 24 million US vehicles contain these potentially lethal inflators but less than 8 million have been replaced.

The problem with the airbags appears to be in their inflators. The inflators use ammonium-nitrate gas which can cause them to engage from even the slightest low-speed crashes. The resulting rupture hurls shards of plastic and metal at the driver causing serious injuries.

Among those to be injured is a young woman who died mere seconds after her steering wheel airbag inflated, launching shards of metal at her. These Metal pieces slit her neck eventually causing her to bleed to death.
